Two middle-aged engineers named Gordon Moore and Bob Noyce quit their jobs in order to ponder what might possible - to imagine, to question, and to do wonderful in pursuit of a better future. That quest began 50 years ago on July 18, 1968 with the incorporation of Intel (short for integrated electronics).
Initially, Intel made computer memory, but in 1971 Intel’s invention of the microprocessor was truly game-changing. Now, the technology wasn’t just about storing data, it was about processing that data. Computers that were once the size of rooms could now be smaller. When the first personal computer (PC) came along in 1975, the Intel® architecture was chosen and the rest, as they say, is history.
For 50 years, Intel has created technologies to deliver experiences once thought to be impossible. Intel recently asked its employees to vote on the top 10 Intel® innovations. Here are the results compiled from more than 26,000 votes.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Intel produced the biggest drone light show ever created. Setting a new Guinness* World Record for most drones flown simultaneously, 2,018 drones flew over the California night sky to deliver an amazing show.
