The Future of 5G is Powered by Intel

3/9/18

Intel 5G technologyWith the successful rollout of 5G technologies at this year's Winter Olympics, Intel displayed the unlimited potential of this next-generation connectivity.

Attendees at last week’s Mobile World Congress* (MWC*) got a glimpse of the technology in action on 5G-connected detachable 2 in 1s powered by 8th gen Intel® Core™ i5 processors.

These new devices paired with this cutting-edge technology will revolutionize the PC experience.

Seamless, Immersive Experiences

Virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) have become part of the gaming and viewing experience for many of us over the past few years.

The increased speed and transfer capacity of 5G networks will make these experiences nearly seamless for most end users and will allow for enhancements to in-game environments, creating a new paradigm for casual gamers and enthusiasts alike.

VR applications go far beyond the gaming experience, however. As Intel demonstrated at the Winter Olympics, 5G implementations could potentially provide the power needed to deliver three-dimensional views of sporting events and other major functions and occasions.

These streaming video options could become the gold standard for movies, streaming videos, and other entertainment options customers enjoy.

Check out this short video from MWC* about 5G and VR.

Faster is Just Around the Corner

At MWC*, Intel announced the collaboration with Dell*, HP*, Lenovo*, and Microsoft* to deploy its Intel® XMM™ 800 series 5G modems in laptops and 2 in 1s.

The current 2 in 1s will be re-engineered for this new technology and Intel is already working on additional form factors.

Take a look at Intel’s first 5G-connected PC.

A few examples of the possibilities 5G-connected devices will provide include:

  • Faster downloads of massive files
  • High-quality video on-the-go
  • High-end online gaming with lower latency rates
  • Seamless connections across Wi-Fi and cellular networks
  • Immersive, untethered VR from anywhere in the world

The end-user experience is slated to be reimagined with PCs powered by Intel® Core™ processors and connected by Intel® 5G modems. You should see these new devices on your store shelves in the second half of 2019.

Stay tuned for more news and information about 5G-connected devices powered by Intel to prepare your customers for this exciting new technology.
